What We Do

farm life

Our foundation is wholeheartedly devoted to the compassionate care of animals that often find themselves in a unique and challenging situation. These are the animals that other rescues may not be able to adopt out due to factors such as age, complex medical care needs, or other concerns.

We also provide a for animals that are in need of a temporary or furever home due to other unfortunate emergency situations such as evacuation,  changes in their previous home environment, predator protection, or other circumstances.

At the heart of our mission is a deeply held belief that every single animal, regardless of their circumstances, deserves a forever home overflowing with love and unwavering care.

We invite you to delve into our website to discover more about the profound work we undertake and the incredible animals we serve. There are numerous ways in which you can join us in our mission and make a meaningful difference. Together, we can ensure that these animals, who have faced adversity, find the loving homes and bright futures they truly deserve. Join us in creating a brighter future for these remarkable creatures.

SUCCESS STORIES

Meet Winston & Schmidt

Long-Haggerty Animal Care Foundation Animal Sanctuary Penticton

Winston & Schmidt – 2 potbelly pigs sat with their rescue for almost 2 ½ years because of age and medical requirements.  We brought them in last Valentines Day and they have been such a great addition to the family.

They had opposite personalities. Winston loved his belly rubs right from the get go but would bully Schmidt out of the food. Schmidt was shy and quite afraid of people at first.

We spent a lot of time with these 2 so Winston would be comfortable and know that he would have plenty of food and Schmidt would learn that people can be good too.

These 2 became inseparable and loved to cuddle any chance they got.

You can read more about Winston here & Schmidt here .

Rescues all over Canada are exploding and we would like to get Winston a couple of friends, but do need more space to make this happen.

Pepper & Mira

Mira – the miracle horse – estimated between 25 – 30 - this palomino quarter horse beauty was found starving with the only food being cow manure and water source being snow.  She had been beaten with injuries to her hip, her wither and her legs.

She was absolutely skin and bones but she was pregnant.  She miraculously gave birth and both her and her little man survived.  The rescue foster was incredible in working with her and getting her weight back up.  Mira, with her injuries, was not ridable.  This, along with her age, shyness of people due to her past and special feeding requirements, was being overlooked by potential adopters.   We went out to meet her and fell in love instantly.

Pepper has an incredible story that can be read here

We spent months bonding her and Pepper (she was a bit unsure as she was very protective of her food), but over time, she learned she would always have food around and Pepper was actually a pretty cool friend.  Mira has fully warmed up to me and is getting there with others.

Mira & Trinket

Long-Haggerty Animal Care Foundation Animal Sanctuary Penticton

Trinket – the little Welsh pony – having never been touched or really around humans – she spent over 2 years with the her rescue - getting moved from location to location – she can now be touched and groomed but not ridden.

She is 14 and with her past and her size, she was also overlooked for adoption.  We brought her in to bond with Mira and boy does she have a lot of spunk.  Shy at first, but has she come out of her shell.

She is like a dog that follows us around everywhere looking for treats and scratches.

Best of all, she has the same colouring as Mira, so its like her very own mini-me!

Mira, with her new found confidence and security,  bonded quickly with Trinket. They can be found attached at the hip and have even started grooming each other.
